Munnabhai MBBS, a block-buster hit, is the first Bollywood script to be optioned by a Hollywood Studio for adaptation into international markets.
Munnabhai MBBS is a comedy film about a goon going to a medical school. It introduces Indian audience to 'Jadoo Ki Jhappi' - Munnabhai's antidote to every problem.
Behind the blockbuster:
- Arshad's character was initially called Khujli, which was changed to Circuit on his suggestion.
- The role of Munnabhai was first given to Shahrukh Khan, but he declined due to his neck injury, then it was offered to Vivek Oberoi. Finally the producers casted Jimmy Shergill for the part, but they later interchanged his role with Sanjay Dutt who was cast as the patient 'Zaheer'.
- The original choice for Circuit was Makrand Deshpande.
- The scenes of the Medical College were shot at the Agriculture College of Pune.
- It is remade as Vasool Raja MBBS (Tamil), Shankar Dada MBBS (Telugu), Uppi Dada M.B.B.S. (Kannada).
